Novia Reflex is a high-quality metallised synthetic laminate designed for exceptional performance in roof underlay applications and as a wall cladding for timber frame constructions. It is suitable for both cold and warm pitched roofs as well as insulated wall installations, offering a combination of versatility, durability, and affordability.

Fully compliant with EN 13859-1 for roofs and EN 13859-2 for walls, this reflective breather membrane enhances R and U values when installed correctly. It provides excellent water resistance while maintaining high breathability, helping to regulate moisture and improve energy efficiency. Engineered for strength, it offers outstanding tensile and nail tear resistance and meets the EN 13501-1 fire classification grade E.

Installation

Walls

To install Novia Reflex on walls, fix it to the structure with the reflective side facing outward into the cavity. Start at the bottom, ensuring that upper layers overlap lower layers with a minimum overlap of 100mm for horizontal joints. Vertical laps should be at least 150mm and should not begin within 300mm of a corner. Protect the bottom timber with an additional overlap. Secure the membrane using galvanised nails, stainless staples, or other approved fixings.

Roofs

Novia Reflex is suitable for both cold and warm roof applications, as well as BS 5534 wind uplift scenarios. For warm roofs, it can be placed directly on insulation or a boarded roof if required. In conventional cold roofs, install it by overlapping upper layers over lower layers, following the BS 5534: 2014 minimum overlap guidelines. Ensure a 200mm overlap at the ridge and seal all vertical overlaps over a rafter. Entry points for services such as soil pipes and vents should be carefully sealed by cutting the underlay accurately, turning up the edges, and ideally sealing with Novia tape.

Wind Uplift Zones

For compliance with certain BS 5534 wind uplift zones, use the single-sided Novia Breather Membrane Lap Tape. In zones where tape use is mandatory, a 100mm overlap is acceptable. Batten-restrained results were tested with a 150mm overlap without tape.

Low-Emissivity Cavities

For improved U-value performance, the membrane can be installed with the reflective side facing backward into a low-emissivity cavity. A 25mm counter-batten can be used to create this cavity, preventing contamination on the reflective surface. In this setup, an additional breathable membrane such as Novia Black should be installed on top of Novia Reflex, facing outward as usual.

Tapes and Sealing

To achieve optimal airtightness, Novia installation tapes should be used. While not always mandatory, the single-sided Novia Breather Membrane Lap Tape is recommended. For projects requiring a greater focus on airtightness, Novia Double-Sided Adhesive Tape provides additional sealing benefits. Using both tapes ensures a high-quality, durable, airtight, and breathable installation.
