This old, full colour and wonderful map shows the county of Surrey as it was in 1829. Published in Greenwood's Atlas of England & Wales and engraved by J & C Walker, this is one of the finest old county maps from the 1800s.
This map looks great at all sizes: 16x20 inches (40x50cm), 18x24 inches (45.5x61cm) and 24x36 inches (61x91.5cm), but it looks even better when printed large.
I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 56x70 inches (140x180cm). Please get in touch if you're looking for larger, customised or different framing options.
The model in the listing images is holding the 20x16 inch (51x40.5cm) version of this map.
If you’re looking for something slightly different, another option would be this amazing map of the same area by Joan Blaeu in 1665.
Many of the towns, villages and cities in Surrey are already visible in this map.
Brixton, Clapham, Dulwich and Camberwell are clearly visible in the top right - back then they were parts of Surrey, until they became part of the London borough of Lambeth in 1889.
In the bottom right corner is a beautiful engraving of Lambeth Palace & Church.
Some of the towns, villages and places clearly visible in this old county map include: Woking, Leatherhead, Walton-on-Thames, Guildford, Kingston, Esher, Cobham, Godalming, Oxted, Croydon, Brentford, Mortlake, Richmond, Sutton, Morden, and many others.
Take a look at the detailed images and try to spot your hometown!
Somewhat unusually, this map also includes polling locations for county elections, parishes, churches, windmills, watermills, railways and much more.
This would make a wonderful birthday, Christmas, Father's Day, work leaving or housewarming gift for someone from Surrey or who has Surrey in their heart. This map is available as a giclée print on acid free archival matte paper, or you can buy it framed. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that suits most aesthetics. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame colour or material. My frames are glazed with super-clear museum-grade acrylic (perspex/acrylite), which is significantly less reflective than glass, safer, and will always arrive in perfect condition.
