This lovely old map of Edinburgh from 1921, by John Bartholomew and Son, shows the Scottish capital when many of its suburbs were still open fields and hills. Large sizes are available up to 2.5m wide. Please get in touch if you are looking for a framed larger map.

Central Edinburgh is already there of course, as is the port towns of Leith and Portobello. Older suburbs like Murrayfield and Morningside are partly developed. But beyond that... it's mostly just fields!

Intriguingly, a number of Fever Hospitals are dotted around the map - hospitals just for treating infectious diseases like smallpox.

With this being a pocket map for the intrepid Edinburgh explorer, the edges of the map are adorned with grid references for all of the major landmarks and streets - very handy for the modern viewer of the map, I think!

A crisscross of railways feature strongly in this large map of Edinburgh, including the Caledonian Railway, North British Railway and Edinburgh Suburban line.

Many of the parks, green spaces and hills - all beautifully hand coloured in this old map of Edinburgh - are still around today, including King's Park (now Holyrood Park), the Meadows and Inverleith Park.

And if all that wasn't enough, there's even an inset map of the full extent of Edinburgh, showing the city and its suburbs up to around 10 miles out.

This historic map is lovely at 18x24 inches, but it looks great at sizes all the way up to 180cm (70 inches) wide. It would look great on the living room wall of someone who has Edinburgh in their heart - or on the wall of a pub, bar, hotel or office.

The model in the listing images is holding the 24x18 inch (60x45cm) version of this map.

Please note that the details on this map are very small at smaller sizes, such as 16x12 and 20x16 inches.

You can order the map itself, or you can order a framed version. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that really makes our maps pop out when on a wall. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame. We use super-clear acrylic (perspex/acrylite) in our frames - it's less reflective than glass and better for transport.
