A local gem and the origin story of the city. It was in December 1926 by Walter H. Morgan, who is also credited for importing the golf industry to the Coachella Valley, building the first 9-hole golf course at the resort, and charging the public a large sum of $1 to play. In 1937, 6 tennis courts and a tennis pro shop were built, which is active today. In the late ’50s and early '60s, President Eisenhower frequently stayed at the hotel; his brother even owned a home in La Quinta Country Club, where Eisenhower often golfed. In 1980, the two golf courses (which exist today) were built: Dune Course & Mountain Course. Today, the resort is recognized as a top destination in Palm Springs.
