The show, and accompanying text, highlight the works of Kobayashi Kiyochika, a nineteenth-century Japanese artist. The text delves into Kiyochika’s life and provides visual analyses of the works included. In his life, Kiyochika produced “an astonishing diversity of work” including landscapes, portraits, and satirical illustrations (from p. 6 of the Introduction). “If one were to choose a single artist to represent the Meiji era, it would probably have to be Kiyochika” (from p. 6 of the Introduction).
