What do we see in this work of art - carp becomes dragon?
This is a Korean folk painting called Yaklido (Image of a Jumping Carp, 약리도, 躍鯉圖). It comes from the legend of the Chinese Dragon Gate (the dragon rising to the gate, 등용문, 登龍門). In this painting we see the climax of the legend, in which the carp jumps into the air. Up the Yellow River of China, there is a gorge called Yongmun (Dragon Gate, 용문, 龍門). It is said that the current in this gorge is very strong and even large, strong fish have difficulty swimming against it. Legend has it that a fish that struggled against the rough currents of the Dragon Gate became a dragon. The dragon gate is a symbol of success, which is why this folk painting, Yaklido, was primarily used as a gift that contributed to success, for example before an important exam.
The full title of the image is: "An image of a carp becoming a kite". In Japan, this title depicts a carp jumping into the water. In Korean folk pictures, however, it is usually shown jumping into the air. So that's what we mean by Yaklido. Along with the Yongmun Gorge in the background, some of the carp heads in these paintings are painted with dragon faces.

Where can this mural hang?
The picture “Carp becomes a dragon” by Misun Kim, printed on a poster in the frame, stands out from the monotony with its round shape. This classic Asian motif fits particularly well in an office or in the dining room, where it impresses with its elegance and unusualness.
