In the spirit of Nakashima and more recently Vince Skelly, this chair is carved from a single trunk. Age rings are visible, as are the natural burls. This is sturdy and actually a pretty comfortable spot to rest your bottom, thanks to the formed seat. We recently washed this down, but dry it fades to a lovely weathered pale grey. You could stain it too. 

Indoor use suggested and for longevity we suggest keeping it out of the rain if you plan to keep it outside in the garden
