Period and details: c. early 1900s post-Victorian with an ornately filigreed basket and hand-engraved shoulders and sides. The color of this ring is extraordinary—we’ve never seen anything quite like it. The piece is stamped “14K”, which is something we’ve confirmed via acid testing. Yet the ring is neither yellow nor what people typically think of when they see white gold. It's more of a particularly-warm white gold. It’s our hypothesis that the ring pre-dates white gold as we know it today. Instead, this ring's alloy seems like an experiment carried out by a jeweler or smelter 100+ years ago. We presume that the jeweler tried to whiten and brighten pure gold by  alloying it with a high silver content. The piece is therefore not only unique in color, but it is also more prone to taking on a patina (which we love). It will naturally darken in the low spots over the months and years. Undoing the patina is simple—just give the ring a dip in silver cleaning solution or take it to a local jeweler for a quick soak and/or polish. But we suggest allowing the patina to develop, adding your own layers to the ring’s already unique history.
