Antique French 19th C Aubert Klaftenberger of Paris Louis XV ormolu mantel clock. Dating to the 1840's this stunning mantel clock has superbly gilted decorations which is equalled only by the beautifully decorated Sevres porcelain panels on the front. As expected from all fine 19th century French makers this clock is cast in several pieces. The movement was made by Jean Vincenti and co sometime between 1834 and 1855. The clock expert who serviced this piece dated it to the 1840's due to the use of string in the mechanism.

The esteemed firm of Aubert & Klaftenberger made only the highest quality clocks and as such were commissioned by the heads of state and European royalty to make diplomatic gifts for them. This piece is stamped 1244 on the clock mechanism, on the outside and on each subsequent porcelain panel which verifies that it was always together.

Charles Klaftenberger was trading from 1863 to 1881. Aubert & Klaftenberger traded in London from 1839 to 1857 and are recorded again in 1881. Alone or in partnership these two retailed some of the very finest French clocks.

MEASUREMENTS

Clock measures 12.75" tall by 12.5" wide by 4.75" deep and weighs 11lb 3oz.

CONDITION

This clock is in great condition and works well. It has been fully serviced. It is missing its key and the cherubs has had a replacement sickle made for his hand. There is some cracking to the enamel face in the area of 10 and 12 (please see all pictures as they form part of the condition description).
