Overview:
In the mid-1940s through the late 1950s, Alco sold nearly 700 examples of the FA-1 and FB-1 Models to 25 railroads in the US, Canada and Mexico. These venerable locomotives saw regular mainline service right up to the late 1970s. Some managed to continue into the 1980s and 90s in passenger service. This was the case on the Long Island Rail Road, albeit with the prime mover removed for use as a "control car."
