Grow Amaryllis outdoors in USDA zones 8 to 11. In colder climates, these specially grown bulbs will bloom four to six weeks after planting in their first year. After the plant has bloomed, cut the blooming stem at the base and allow the leaves to continue to grow in soil to generate nutrients for the bulb. The foliage will stay green and lush all year and the plant will bloom again during the year. For bulbs where the foliage dies and the potted bulb goes dormant, allow the soil to dry out and store in a cool dry place for a few months after which re pot the bulb and get it growing by watering it regularly, the flowers should come out in about four months.

Grow in full sun to part shade.
