Hard To Find Rca 44-a Ribbon Microphone Value Pack [KyuaeVSC]
Here's an Hard To Find Rca 44-a Ribbon Microphone Value Pack [KyuaeVSC] from the early 1940's! The 44-A was the first of the legendary "44" series of microphones from RCA. While the 44-A and 44-BX are often times compared to one another, they are very different ribbon microphones with different motors. In general the 44-A has less low end extension than the BX, however, this particular 44-A was used by CBS at Studio 2 in NYS (see picture). When CBS used this microphone, they updated it with a 44-BX transformer and added an M/V switch for ease of use in their broadcasting studio. Because of these changes, this 44-A is one of the best I've heard, sounding nearly the same as a 44-BX with a large proximity effect. This microphone is in overall good condition for its age, with some imperfections to the paint and other signs of wear. It's in perfect working condition with a new ribbon, new grill cloth, and a new XLR cable connected to its large Cannon connector (also modded for use in the CBS studios). If you've been looking for a big sounding ribbon for less than the typical cost of a 44-BX, this is the microphone for you. Grab this 44-A Ribbon Microphone from RCA!
