A sterling silver and alligator Art Deco gentleman's hip flask. This stunning and very large example is a classic high end, and exceptional looking with a real feel of the exuberance of the "Jazz Age". Sure to draw a very jealous gaze. The flask is two thirds wrapped in exotic alligator skin, which has matured over the years to a stunning colour and has a very tactile feel. The skin has a window cut through it to expose the body in order for the consumer to keep a wary eye on the fuel in the tank! The bottom third is a thick gauge of sterling silver which not only helps protect the glass beneath the metal, it also detaches to be used as a cup.

Both alligator and crocodile skin became a symbol of luxury in the West as wealthy people began to venture on 'World Tours', making luggage and luxurious accessories from spoils of the hunt, or "trophies". This is why these types of prints began to be seen across a variety of objects for both personal accessories, and the home.

The flask is in perfect condition bar a small dent in the top of the lid. It is possible to engrave and personalise this piece as the silver gauge is thick, and it can be done on the cup portion. The flask bears a perfect set of English hallmarks on the side of the cup with a matching set of stamps on the neck, and was made in Sheffield, England by James Ramsey in 1921.
