Some paintings seem to "paint themselves" and this is one of them. It went through several layers of development as these textured abstract paintings need to, in order to build up a history and depth of colors and textures. At one point I stepped back and saw that a misty cathedral, reminiscent of a Monet  impressionist painting, was emerging. Not wanting to create a realist image, I continued layering and tried to break the visual structure apart. After several more layers spread over another month, I stepped back to find that the impression of a cathedral had returned to the panel, but now with a deep blue circle at its heart. Somehow this painting needed to be what it is, and it brought me a powerful message. I hope it will bring comfort and hope to all who believe in a power greater than ourselves.
