Summer Sale A Swath Of Resist Dyed Minority Chinese Indigo Dyed Cotton: Southwest China - Claim Yours [uJQV8Dm6]
ca. late twentieth century
72" x 31 1/2", 183 cm x 80 cm
This is a resist dyed, indigo cotton cloth which was made by one of Southwest China's ethnic minorities, such as the Dong or Miao people who live mainly in Guizhou province.
The cloth was used, probably as a bed cover, and we can see evidence of light wear and some ingrained creasing to the piece. The cotton cloth itself is not hand loomed, but it is hand decorated using a resist technique, and the all over pattern shows phoenixes, butterflies, chrysanthemums and plant forms.
A wonderful, richly decorated piece of indigo dyed cotton cloth from a fascinating part of the world, made by people with rich, well-documented textile traditions.
