Most Popular A Two Haba Fragment Of Good Zanshi-ori: Leftover Thread Weaving Limited Stock [2a30RODP]
ca. early twentieth century
48" x 27 1/2", 122 cm x 70 cm
This is a really lovely two-panel, patched fragment of woven cotton zanshi-ori, a type of weaving that utilizes left-over yarns.
The two panels are hand stitched together and it is quite clear that this fragment was taken from a futon cover. Especially nice about this fairly lightweight hand woven cotton is the fine indigo color: the blues are clear and soft at the same time, and quite true blue.
Pay special attention to the warp yarns which can be seen in the accompanying detail photos. It is here where you can notice some of the leftover kasuri or ikat yarns: the "start and stop" of light colors in the warp indicates that these are leftover kasuri yarns.
The centrally placed, check panel adds interest to this already fine looking zanshi-ori textile. Some surface abrasion and a few small clusters of difficult to notice stains.
A beauty.
