This is a mended and patched panel of old indigo dyed katazome cotton. The katazome pattern dyed into the cloth is meant to mimic sashiko stitching--and it does look quite a bit like it.

The color of the indigo dyed cotton has faded and oxidized over time and is now an overall greyish color in several tones. The cotton itself is tightly woven and fairly heavy.

The central portion of this length is two layers thick due to the application of two large patches each of which is the same width as the base cloth. 

Pay attention to these two patches because on them are some interesting examples of mending stitches which are done in dark cotton thread. 

With overall patina from wear and surface abrasions and fading this is a really lovely, old length of indigo dyed katazome boro cloth.
