Shown here is a sakiori obi, which is a traditional kimono sash that has been woven from a weft of shredded, recycled cottons.
The cotton warp yarns are very thin and dense; they seem to be of a grey-white color. The weft rag yarns are orange-rust, mottled orange-rust and grey in evenly spaced, horizontal bars. The first 1/6 of the obi shows some streaks of saturated color yarns in red, purple and green.
An beautifully colored sakiori obi in good, well-used condition appropriate with its age.
