RIAA Gold Album Award for the Tony Rich Project album Words. Released on Jan. 16, 1996, the album was certified Gold by the RIAA for 500,000 copies sold on Mar. 19, 1996.

The album produced the singles "Nobody Knows", which reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100, "Like a Woman", and "Leavin'". The album won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Album in 1997 and peaked at #31 on the Billboard Top 200 chart, #18 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, and it also charted in several other countries as well. By July 1996 the album was certified Platinum by the RIAA for one million copies sold.*

Detailed Item Description: This is a RIAA Gold album award that would have been manufactured in 1996, making it approx. 29 years old. It is presented to The Hit Factory® Mastering, the facility in New York City where the album was mastered.

This award is in VG condition with only minor mars on the frame and plexiglass. The award is all original and although the manufacturer sticker has been torn off, the construction indicates it was made by Ill Eagle Enterprises. The numbered sticker on the back of the award is an inventory number from the recording studio/mastering facility.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true.
