REVOLUTIONARY PLACES

This special bundle of Texas Minis takes you to the Big Three sites of the Texas Revolution as they appeared in 1836. Each is the perfect size - 9 x 12" - to perch on your desk or mantel.

The Alamo

Sam Houston's son, Andrew Jackson Houston, drawing on his father's papers and previous drawings of the Alamo compound, drew this composite of how the Alamo looked in 1836 while working on his book on the Texas Revolution. He published that book in 1938. He drew eleven maps and plans that were included with a special limited edition of his book. This is one of them. The San Jacinto battlefield, also included in this bundle, is another.

Fort Defiance (Goliad)

This look at 1836 Presidio La Bahia was the handiwork of Capt. Joseph M. Chadwick, adjutant to James Fannin. He sketched out Fort Defiance, as it was then called, and mailed it home to his mother shortly before the Goliad Massacre. After learning of the death of Chadwick, his family sent the sketch off to a New York lithographer to have some prints made. Chadwick's sketch played a critical role in the restoration of the Presidio in the twentieth century.

SAN JACINTO BATTLEFIELD

Another of the maps prepared by Sam Houston's son in the 1930s for his book on the Texas Revolution. A. J. Houston's map shows the battlefield as his father saw it in 1836. It helps you put the landmarks of Peggy McCormick's lake, the Zavala home, Burnet's home, Tory Hill, etc. in perspective. And, of course, it clearly shows the positions of the Texian and Mexican forces just before the battle on April 21, 1836
