A woman walks towards the bow of her boat, which rests against narrow pilings. A red-hot fire has been made in the middle of the craft, and the sHere is depicted Osome, a tragic figure of Kabuki kyogen of shinju-mono. Osome, a daughter of an oil merchant falls in love with Hisamatsu, a servant/employee of the oil shop. The servant was not allowed to fall in love with the owner’s daughter. Consequently the lovers meet a tragic end by both ending their lives. The story became a popular subject. On the left above of this print the work title is written in red and a cartouche in a fan shape shows an oil shop with barrels.moke billows up in embossed plumes. The background shows the opposite riverbank and several other watercraft enveloped in a soft haze. With two Watanabe seals; one used in the early twenties and one used in the early thirties.
