FilaCube PLA 2 (PLA 2nd Generation) 3D Printer Filament

This is the PLA 2 Filament! The FilaCube Research & Development Department is committed to develop unique proprietary formulas for consistent, reliable and hassle-free 3D printing experience for everyone. After FilaCube PLA and PLA Plus (PLA+) filaments, this is our second generation PLA ( Poly(lactic acid), polylactic acid or polylactide) filament (PLA 2) with better formability, smooth surface, strong layer adhesion (bonding/binding) strength, low shrinkage, low-to-no warpping and less brittleness.

Anti-clog During our filament manufacturing process, the melted raw materials are filtered by two 100x100 stainless steel meshes. The aperture of the mesh is about 0.15mm, which prevent larger particles from going into the final filament products. Considering the 0.4mm or 0.35mm extruding nozzle is commonly used by 3D FFF printers, FilaCube filaments can reduce the chance of clogging your 3D printer nozzle significantly.

Diameter Consistency A high-speed laser micrometer is used to monitor the diameter variance of all our newly extruded filament in real time during production. With a measurement accuracy of 0.002mm, we can achieve a diameter tolerance of 0.03mm on our 1.75mm and 2.85mm filament. The dimensional consistency of our filament prevents clogs by inconsistent filament diameter and improves print quality by extruding the right amount of filament while printing.

Q&A 1: Should a heated bed be used with FilaCube PLA 2 Filament?

No heated bed is needed for FilaCube PLA 2 filament. If a hot bed is used, the bed temperature should be less than 40 degree Celsius (104 degree Fahrenheit). High hotbed temperature will lower the bonding strength between the first layer and the print bed. If you want to use a heated bed, please always calibrate your bed temperature for best 3D printing results.

Q&A 2: How to find best print temperature with FilaCube PLA 2 Filament on your 3D printer?

Every printer and every filament brand is different! To get best print results, please calibrate your extruder/nozzle temperatures. You can download a temperature calibration tower off thingiverse, set the temperature range from 180 to 230 degrees Celsius in steps of 5 degrees, and print the calibration tower and choose the best temperature for your printer.

Q&A 3: How to print a successful first layer?

A successful first layer is critical to a successful 3D print. Your first layer should stick to the bed every time.

Make sure your machine is properly calibrated, the print bed (or print surface) is leveled and the extruder is at the right height from the bed.

Lower print speed. Reduce first layer speed to 30-50% of normal speed. This will allow extra time for the filament to gain binding with the bed and stick.

Q&A 4: How to store FilaCube PLA 2 filament?

The performance of many types of 3D printing filaments will deteriorate after long exposure to moisture. For better printing quality, we recommend storing your filament in a vacuum sealed bag with desiccant. If the filament is damp, you can dehydrate it in an oven with 50 degree Celsius for about one or two hours.

Q&A 5: How to prevent filament crossing/tangling?

Filament crossing/tangling can fail a print. When a new spool is opened, the free end of the filament is secured on the spool. Filament crossing/tangling occurs when the free end is not properly secured or uncoiled filament spills over the edge of the flange. 3D printer users should always secure the loose end of the filament to prevent filament crossing/tangling.
