Description: A nice papal states bronze medal with the image of the bust of Pope Benedict XV on the obverse. Benedict XV was pope in the period 1914-1922. This the 7th year issue papal medal commemorating the proclamation of two new saints St. Jerome and St. Ephraem or Ephrem the doctor of the Church. The reverse shows the images of St. Jerome and St. Ephraem both reading with a lion at their feet. The obverse shows the bust of the pope facing left with the inscription "BENEDICTUS.XV.PONT.MAX.A.VII" along the edge surrounding the pontiff's bust with the name of the engraver Mistruzzi below the bust. The reverse shows the two saints reading with St. Jerome looking at St. Ephraem with the lion at their feet with the holy Ghost within sunbeam on top. The design is surrounded by the legend "DOCTORUM.SCRIPTURAE.DUX.CELEBRATUS" along the edge with the inscription "NUMERUS.ACTUS.ANNO.MCMXX" in exergue The medal is nicely toned in a rich brown coloring with very nice eye appeal. The edge of the medal is plain and unmarked. This is a nice looking medal, which would make a worthy addition to any collection. Weight and Size: The medal weighs ~31 grams, is ~44 millimeters in diameter, and ~3 millimeters thick at the edge.
