EAR OF CORN!
This listing features a vintage original COOKIE JAR or BISCUIT JAR produced by MCCOY POTTERY, circa 1958.
The cookie jar design named, "EAR OF CORN", is glazed in gorgeous sunflower yellow, earthy browns and bright greens glazes, reminiscent of a majolica type glaze. The cookie jar is completely covered with raised corn kernels and shuck. The top of the lid is topped with corn silk.
It is an absolutely gorgeous piece!
Measuring about 12" tall with the lid and 7 ¾” without the lid, the piece is in excellent vintage condition, with no chips or cracks. There is one spot on the lid that may appear in the photos to be a chip, but its actually a piece of clay from the manufacturing process stuck to the inside of the rim.
The bottom of the jar is marked MCCOY USA. Although now unlegible because of its age, the original McCoy sticker is still attached to the side of the cookie jar.
McCoy Pottery: McCoy Pottery founded in 1910 by Nelson and J.W. McCoy, was made in Roseville, Ohio. The company began making art pottery in 1926 and by 1933 had changed its name to the Nelson McCoy Pottery Company. It was at this time they began to mark their pieces McCoy. Cookie jars were one of their most popular items and were made by McCoy from about 1940 to 1990, when the factory closed.
