Holiday Special Japanese Mikado By Primicerio & Co. Japanese Gloss Bottle In Amber Glass Circa 1880 - 1920 Best Choice [758wlZbJ]

Very desirable and rare figural glass bottle from the Primicerio & Company of Baltimore, Maryland.  The antique JAPANESE GLOSS BOTTLE held a furniture polish that is claimed to have won the "Highest Award” at the World's Fair Exposition in 1884. 

The 6 ½” figural bottle depicts an Asian man in religious robes and has multiple embossed markings.  Kovels Bottles describes the bottle as a JAPANESE MIKADO or emperor.

• Back of the Mikado figure's collar embossed with the word, INDESTRUCTIBLE
• J. G. P. across forehead of the Mikado
• SHAKE ME WELL and BEFORE USING placed vertically on two lines down the Mikado's skirt
• GLOSS placed vertically down right sleeve of the Mikado
• JAPANESE placed vertically down left sleeve of the Mikado
• PRIMICERIO & CO across heel of bottle in front
• SOLE PROPRIETORS & MANUFACTURERS and BALTIMORE, MD across heel of bottle in back on two lines

The figural bottle is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks and very clean.  The glass color is a beautiful amber.

The mouth has an external thread finish, allowing two or three full turns around the finished neck.  It has a rough cracked-off or burst-off rim that was ground roughly and was most likely made in a blow-over mold.  The mold lines on the bottle are well hidden and appear to stop at the beginning of the neck.
