Muzquiz fluorite typically occurs as stepped cubic or octahedral crystals that range in color from a pale, almost colorless hue to deep purple. Many specimens feature distinct zoning, with different saturation of color in different parts of the crystal. This zoning is caused by changes in the chemical composition of the fluid from which the fluorite formed.

One of the most notable features of Muzquiz fluorite is its fluorescence. When exposed to ultraviolet light, Muzquiz fluorite can emit a range of bright, vivid colors.
