The famous Echizen Forge Smith Takeshi Saji is one of the most experienced and famous forge smiths in Takefu (Now Echizen City), Fukui Prefecture. During his long career, he has made a great and lasting impact upon the next generation of young Echizen forge smiths and craftsmen.

In recent years, numbers of young forge smiths and craftsmen have decided to work as knife makers in Echizen City (Takefu City), Fukui Prefecture. Many of them were attracted to Echizen because of the "Takefu Knife Village" cooperative, which was founded by Master Saji and several other veteran knife makers to train and support the next generation of forge smiths and craftsmen. We believe the soul, spirit and skills of these experienced forge smiths and craftsmen will continue to be handed down to these future generations of craftspeople over the coming decades, so a wide selection of unique and attractive traditional Echizen forged knives should be available for many years to come.

Recently, at the Seki Outdoor Knife Show, we met a passionate young forge smith called Mr. Ooba, who is one of Master Takeshi Saji’s apprentices.

His Custom Knives have an aggressive, tactical style of design. It was obvious to me that Mr. Ooba has been building his skill and experience over the past few years. His precise and detailed work, especially his handmade custom handles, clearly reflect his passion for knife making.

It is great to see a young forge smith who challenges themselves to make an innovative collection of Japanese Traditional Forged Knives that have their own unique sense of style and personality.

We felt the positive passion from Mr. Ooba's unique custom knife. 6.2" Black Forged Kurouchi White Steel No.2 Damascus Carbon Steel, Drop Point Sturdy Convex Grind Blade. For matching with the unique Kurouchi Damascus blade design and Mr. Oba created the impressive, stylish Custom Combination Handle with good accent of Ocean Blue Acrylic Resin and polished Stainless steel Butt. Nicely hand-contoured Custom Handle and Black Damascus blade remind us the beautiful scene of Ocean in the Dark. Comes with Black Leather Sheath.
