African Mahogany is a medium to heavyweight wood. The heartwood color of this wood varies, starting from very pale pink to a deeper reddish-brown, typically with streaks of medium to dark reddish-brown. Mahogany is a fine-grained wood with great musical properties. The tone is warm and full with good sustain. The grain is easy to fill. An easy application of a clear finish can go a long way for this wood. The uniform pattern of mahogany, along with its density, compress midrange tones. However, it also provides thicker sounds. Mahogany body blanks are also beautiful when finished, which adds even more to its appeal.
