An important signed copy of one of the greatest works of 20th Century literature, the only signed example of which we are aware on the market in at least a decade. First edition in English, signed "Thomas Mann" in ink on the front free endpage, printed in London in Octavo in 1928 for the New Adelphi Library, in the publisher's original green cloth, titles to spine and upper board gilt, and with an excellent example of the publisher's scarce original dust-jacket, complete in all respects and in excellent condition. Written in 1912 and published in Germany under the title Der Tod in Venedig, this edition also includes the novellas Tristan and Tonio Kröger.


271 numbered pages. 19.5 cm by 13.5 cm by 2.9 cm; each leaf measures about 188 mm by 127 mm. With clean pages, clear print and full margins throughout. The dustjacket is present and a pleasing example with only minor edgewear, the cloth binding is also quite pleasing, with only a little minor sunning at the top and bottom edges of the spine, with hinges and book-block of the binding very strong. Mann's ink signature is an excellent, clear example, with his name spelled in full.
