This hand-knotted carpet is made with locally produced wool, traditionally vegetable dyed with the bright red produced from the root of the madder plant. Although this piece is primarily cream, many blue, red, gold, and turquoise are used on the centre ground.

Although Kazaks are hand-knotted in Afghanistan, the design originates from the Caucasus. The short pile emphasises the sharpness of the pattern. Each piece is made using excellent Afghan wool, usually spun in Ghazni. The Afghan wool is generally slightly coarser and more curly than other wools and is perfect for carpet weaving. Afghan Kazak carpets are traditionally made with bold geometric designs in intense, vibrant colours such as rich reds, warm terracottas, and shades of blues with soft golds and creams.

In Pakistan, the final carpet stage involves many processes. Initial tensioning and alignment problems may be addressed, followed by surface clipping, herbal washing, and tumbling. This combination of Afghan weaving and finishing has succeeded.
