This meticulously crafted Price Drop Alert Fries’ Ptolemaic Map Of Asia Minor 45% Off - Today Only [RGUzQdD3] is a rare and historically significant piece of cartography. Engraved by Lorenz Fries from Martin Waldseemüller’s maps, this woodcut is a testament to the precision and beauty of Renaissance cartography. The map encompasses the regions of Pontum, Bithyniam, Asiae propriae, Phyrgia, Lyciam, Pamphiliam, Pisidia, Galatiam, Paphlagonia, Isauria, Capadociam, Armeniam minorem, and Ciliciam, offering a detailed view of ancient Asia Minor.

Historical Context and Significance

This map is a part of the 1522 and 1525 editions of Ptolemy’s Geographia, published by Johann Grüninger. After Grüninger’s death, the printing blocks were acquired by the Treschel brothers, Melchior and Gaspar, who reprinted them in Lyons in 1535 with a revised text. The translation revisions were made by the polymath Michael Servetus, who was later burned for heresy in Geneva. Our example is from the final edition, published by Gaspar Treschel in Vienne. This map is not just a piece of art but a window into the past, offering insights into the world as it was understood during the Renaissance.
