About the Wine

The vineyard fruit in these wines is considered among the finest in all of Napa. The winemaking hand is that of one of the finest winemakers in all of Bordeaux. The result is a Napa Valley Cab that is decidedly Bordeaux in character. This is not a hit you over the head with oak and fruit. This a more nuanced and balanced Cab that will leave you beguiled and reaching back again and again for another glass.

World's End, the audacious Napa Valley venture of renowned Bordeaux winemaker Jonathan Maltus, offers a unique perspective on Californian winemaking. The name "World's End" is a nod to the Chelsea district in London, where Maltus once lived.

Jonathan Maltus a.k.a “the cult winemaker” is a Rockstar in the wine industry, who also produces high-end, award-winning wines in Bordeaux like Chateau Le Dome (compare at $200/btl), Le Carre, Les Asteries, and Vieux Chateau Mazerat in Bordeaux.

World's End sources its grapes from some of Napa Valley's most prestigious vineyards, including those owned by legendary grower Andy Beckstoffer (AKA “Napa’s most powerful grape grower” by both the Wall Street Journal and Wine Spectator), To Kalon Missouri Hooper, Vineyard D Missouri Hooper, Vineyard B Circle S, Georges III Carneros Lake Vineyard, Pritchard Hill, and the Stagecoach Vineyard. These prime locations contribute significantly to the exceptional quality of his wines.

Tasting Notes

100% Cabernet Sauvignon. This rich, full-bodied red is packed with blackberry, currant, tobacco, and dark chocolate flavors. It’s delicious now but has the potential to become even more complex with a little time in the cellar.

Critic Review

The 2018 Crossfire is a solid step up, offering remarkable purity and precision in its abundant crème de cassis, tobacco, flowers, and graphite-like aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, concentrated, and structured, it needs 3-4 years to hit its sweet spot and should evolve nicely through 2038. ~94 Jeb Dunnuck

The 2018 Crossfire Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper Vineyard features notes of dark chocolate, cedar, cassis, plum and spice cake. It's all Cabernet Sauvignon from this Oakville site, matured in 80% new French oak (20% second-fill).
