A recent traumatic event involving a dear friend's mare has my heart hurting and my mind in overdrive. As much as horses are the number one healers in my life, they can also shatter your heart - hard. For two decades now, I’ve had a horse in my personal life. They are truly my greatest joy and most direct teachers, if I listen, carefully. Wild and domestic.

I'm trying to make sense of a trauma that has no blame, just what this mare’s journey was bringing forth for her, very unfairly. Like anyone dealing with an illness or injury, it near impossible not to want to know “why”. Anger, frustration and ultimately grief overcome you and there is nothing you can do but ride through it. Be in the moment, be strong, do what needs to be done for those who need it, and then - heal.

For the second day in a row I awoke overwhelmed with emotion and in a morning moment of quiet heard the words…turn to the WILD. It is here that is and will forever be my healing place. The gratitude I have to these experiences, and the images captured that return home with me is enormous. The WILD is my sanctuary and inspiration. Just spending time looking over images from a non judgment place, meaning as an artist “what is worthy or not” softened my soul.

The open space, the mighty mountain and a lone stallion moving through life, guided by moments to moments and all mother nature gives him for survival provided some healing today.
