The Bumblebee Oscar is a large, predatory fish found in certain river systems in Southern Brazil, Bolivia, and possibly Paraguay. It has a distinct yellow-black patterning and lacks the characteristic eye spots found on the dorsal fin of all wild forms of the Common Oscar, its close relative.

As a large growing and predatory fish, the Bumblebee Oscar requires a spacious aquarium, but it will typically reach a slightly smaller adult size at only 9-10”. Despite their reputation for aggression, they are relatively peaceful for a large cichlid and can coexist with similarly sized fish in a mixed community if given ample tank space.

To maintain their vibrant colors as they grow, it is recommended to feed them a varied diet of high-quality prepared and frozen foods.
