Halloween Special 1955 Gibson Southerner Jumbo Holiday Edition [sLH0BkdS]

Introduced in 1942, the Gibson Southerner Jumbo was designed as a more deluxe version of the J-45. Alternately known as the Southern Jumbo or SJ, the model went through a number of spec changes throughout the '40s and '50s, with the natural top SJN model being introduced in 1954 and later rebranded to the Country Western. Throughout this time, the Southerner Jumbo remained one of the companies flagship flat top guitars, and has been a favourite of collectors and players ever since. 

This Halloween Special 1955 Gibson Southerner Jumbo Holiday Edition [sLH0BkdS] is a fantastic example of a mid '50s Gibson acoustic guitar. The body is constructed from Sitka Spruce with Mahogany back and sides, with this example having a particularly woody and open tone. Gibson acoustics of this period were often lighter built and lighter braced than later models, making them more resonant and responsive than the majority of the later square shoulder models. This Southerner Jumbo also features the signature split parallelogram pearl inlays and pearloid crown headstock logo, along with a replacement period correct larger pointed pick guard as opposed to the earlier teardrop style on previous models. 

This guitar is in very good condition for an instrument of its age, with lacquer checking, play wear & patina commensurate with its age. This guitar has had an old sunburst refinish, and the bridge has been replaced. Otherwise, it is in original condition. 

This guitar has been given a full service by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 3 year warranty.
