This is a beautiful quality vintage 1940s homburg hat in a deep blue colour, almost black.  The lining bears the Eatonia brand mark and the sweatband is gold stamped with “The T. Eaton & Co. Limited of Montreal Canada”.  This vintage 1940s homburg hat is of excellent quality and was probably made under contract by one of the better hat makers, most likely Biltmore of Canada or Stetson.  The inventory ticket under the sweatband of this homburg states that it is a size 7 1/4 and the size ticket at the back sweatband reads “1/4”.  Due to the higher crown, I believe that this dates the hat to the late 1940s or early 1950s.  Note that the price ticket on the interior of the sweatband reads $4.75, which, to me, is more in keeping with 1940s.   This vintage 1940s homburg is made in a classic homburg form with turned rim covered in grosgrain.  The crown is wrapped in dark blue grosgrain ribbon.  The homburg measures 22 1/2” around the sweatband and 6 1/2” by 7 3/4” across the opening.  The brim measures 2 3/8” in width at the front and back and 2 1/4” at the sides.  The crown measures 5 1/4” in height.  The fur felt is pliable, so the crown can be pinched if desired, but I believe that a homburg should be worn unpinched and only with its centre crease.  This vintage 1940s homburg is in very good condition - very clean, except for some light staining to the top liner.  This is a beautiful quality vintage 1940s homburg, wonderful form in an attractive colour - nice vintage 1940s homburg to find in a size 7 1/4!
