We have for sale a slice of English watchmaking history. This vintage open face pocket watch is from the prestigious watch maker J W Benson, London, and is Circa 1935.

J W Benson was one of the most respected watchmakers during the second half of the 19th Century, and was one of very few watchmaking houses that was English rather than Swiss.

The company was originally set up by James William Benson and his brother , Samuel Suckley Benson. Aswell as being watchmakers, they were also importers and retailers of diamonds, gold and silver ware.

This stunning pocket watch has a hinged polished 9ct yellow gold case with open dial. The case back inside has a Hallmark from the London Assay office with date letter u from 1935, and a stamp of 34463. The chain loop and crown sleeve is also stamped 9ct 375. The white enamel dial features the makers mark and full roman numeral hour markers. There is a large subsidiary seconds dial and gold colour hands. The dial is in excellent condition with the glass also being in excellent condition.

The Swiss 15 jewel mechanical movement is running perfectly and keeps good time, howver due to its age no warranty on time keeping is offered.

It also comes in its original red J W Benson presentation case, with printed silk lining and navy plush pocket watch slot. Rare in this condition.
