This is a one session class: Saturday, September 20th, 1:30-4:30pm

Class Description
Fair Isle knitting (also called stranded knitting) is a traditional method for creating beautiful
garments using only two colors per round. Knitting it is like eating candy: just one more piece;
just one more round. Learn to hold a yarn in each hand to create the lovely patterns while starting
a winter hat. We will also cover tacking floats on the wrong side of the piece, discuss steeking,
and, if time permits, discuss some ways to disguise the "jog" that can happen at the beginning of
round.

Prerequisites
Knit, purl, cast on, knitting in the round.

Skills Learned
Working with one color in each hand, reading a color chart, tacking down floats.

Supplies
Approximately 2 oz worsted weight yarn in one color and 1 oz in a contrasting color (please bring smooth solid-color yarns—no texture); a 16" circular needle and a set of 4 or 5 double-pointed needles (or whatever needles you prefer for working a small circumference in the round), both in size US 7 (or the size that you usually use for worsted weight yarn); a stitch marker;
something to mark your place on a chart.

Homework
Cast on 96 sts using the 2 oz ball of yarn. Place marker and join, being careful not to twist, and work in rnds of k1, p1 rib (or k2, p2 rib, if you prefer) for 11⁄2" to 3" (longer if you like a turned-up edge, shorter if not). Next rnd: K2, k1f&b, [k7, k1f&b] 11 times, k5. (108 sts total) Knit 1rnd. Leave sts on needle, leave yarn attached, and bring to class.
