This original Chelsea Clock Mariner, was shipped from our factory on November 30, 1915 to Tiffany & Company in New York City. Measuring an impressive 25" high and weighing 60 pounds, this 104 year old 8.5" Mariner clock* is a remarkable tribute to the art of precision mechanical timekeeping. Chelsea’s master clock makers have fully restored this truly rare timepiece bringing it back to its original beautiful working condition. Based on the design of an authentic yacht wheel, the remarkable piece boasts a number of exquisite qualities that are unparalleled in beauty and artistry. Key among them is the hand-finished forged brass case and wheel handles which are manufactured in red brass, a brass alloy with just a slight hint of redness. In contrast, the clock’s wheel and base are fashioned from rich, dark bronze plated brass. The hand-silvered dial is marked with “Tiffany & Co. New York” and are graced with classically sculpted numerals, deeply bronzed and hand applied, complemented by elegant bronze filigree hands. The red brass clock case and the bronze base are made in solid forged brass, then meticulously hand finished to eliminate any imperfections.

In Camden yesterday in most approved style, the young sponsor smashed a bottle of champagne against the prow of the craft with a strong right-handed blow as the steel hull started on its journey to the icy waters of the Delaware. She was applauded quite as liberally as the craft that had just taken its native element.

The Bristol was built for the Coastwise Transportation Company and is the ninth ship of its kind constructed at the Camden yard. She is the sister ship to the Coastwise, which was launched February 5th, 1910. She has a carrying capacity of 6500 tons, is 369 feet long, 49 feet wide and has a depth of 35 feet.
