Holiday Special Sabatier La Trompette 12" Chef Knife Carbon Steel 1920-40 Series [e5Iw4bkC]

Sabatier La Trompette 12" cuisine massive / Nogent style carbon steel chef knife made between 1920 and 1940 as evidenced by the addition of M Pouzet on the stamp. 

This knife has a nice straight carbon steel blade that was hand forged and hand ground with a brazed joint nickel ferrule and mellowed pear wood handle. Blade has some pits and has been sharpened in a little but is still very full and handle is free from wiggles or cracks. Blade has a fresh edge. 

This brand was the offshoot of the 84 Rue St Honore Sabatier with open hand mark made for the Paris knife shop at 84 Rue St Honore in Paris which finished knives forged in Thiers in Paris. 

La Trompette was started in the mid 19th century and had a very long run, exporting a lot outside of France, most 19th century Sabatier knives I find are La Trompette and they must have had a robust export plan given there were so many other makers in Thiers at the time. 

Carbon steel knives are guaranteed to rust if left wet, dry after use and enjoy a new a patina which will form.
