Unused vintage Kanehide with forged mild steel clad shirogami 3 carbon steel with a poplar wood handle with a nylon ferrule. 

This inexpensive series has a very rudimentary level of finish and the handle is also no frills with a nylon ferrule. Shirogami 3 has a bit less carbon than the more commonly found shirogami 2 making it tougher and more chip resistant but a bit easier to sharpen. Shirogami 3 is a good quality steel for an inexpensive knife and is definitely in line with a Japanese approach to work knives; a knife with good quality steel and basic finish grinding and an economy handle. 

Expect imprefections in terms of edge straightness or bevel flatness, straightening and refining the kireba (main wide bevel) through sharpening is to be expected. 

Not stainless, do not leave wet or put in dishwasher.
