A TRUE WORK OF ART
Originally worn to protect a warrior's wrist from the snap of a bowstring, the traditional ketoh or bow guard gets handsomely reinvented. The wide brown leather cuff is adorned with an intricately ornate stamped silver shield centered by a turquoise cabochon, and is embellished with repoussé accents. This piece is especially unique as it is the property of Burt Reynolds, a well-known western actor. It truly is a classic and unique work of art.
A 1930s-era Navajo ketoh, or bow guard, owned by Burt Reynolds. The ketoh is comprised of brown leather, sterling silver, and a turquoise accent. Reynolds can be seen wearing ketohs similar in style as the title character in spaghetti western revenge film Navajo Joe (Dino de Laurentiis Cinematografica, 1966). Reynolds claimed to have Cherokee roots and portrayed a half-breed Native American in the television series Gunsmoke (CBS Productions, 1955 - 1975) and Hawk (ABC, 1966).
