Students perform physical and chemical analyses of a variety of papers and inks using a number of techniques including chromatography, microscopy, and an alignment tool to analyze documents and handwriting. Students produce and retrieve hidden messages, and prepare forged and authenticated documents. Requires four to five class periods. Meets national standards for grades 5-8.
