A very fine and fresh unmounted mint example, with full original gum, lettered 'TL'.
Very rare to find this stamp in unmounted mint condition.
Originally, the new postage rate of 1½d was proposed in 1860 and 1½d stamps were printed in rosy mauve. The change was, however, not approved and most of that stock was destroyed. By 1870 the 1½d stamp was required and was issued in rose red.
