This OPTi refractometer with 3 preset scales has been specifically designed with winemakers in mind. The 3 preprogrammed scales allow winemakers to assess Brix percentage (sucrose, %Mass), measure grape must, and determine alcohol by volume (ABV).

The Oechsle scale has traditionally been used on a hydrometer when measuring grape must, however by using a refractometer you can be sure to use less sample, create little to no mess, and remove the need to use expensive, fragile glass hydrometer jars in a wet environment!

The Oechsle (DE) scale is based on German data and is ideal for measuring grape must in Germany, the UK and other countries where winemakers have adopted this scale data as the standard for these countries. We also have the Swiss scale available.
