Door Buster Ed Mell - Procession, Edition Of 18 Price Crushed By 45% [UQMEZpad]
Procession is one of Ed's most recognized and iconic sculptures.
This sculpture is a larger version of Mell's sold-out maquette-size Procession and is the first larger table-top size piece that the artist has created. It features new additions not found in the original, particularly the details of the feathers and the dancers' enhanced sense of movement.
The dancers represent the Long Hair Kachina. Their purpose is to bring summer rains, and the objects in their hands are gourd rattles, which they would carry during the ceremony. Ed Mell worked with the Hopi teaching art in the late 1970s. He not only has seen kachina dances but also knew the Hopi men who performed these ceremonies.
This sculpture was published in Western Art Collector magazine, February 2015, page 60. Measurements shown include the base.
