Discover CO-8 Dark Star Glaze
The CO-8 Dark Star glaze by Amaco is a revolutionary addition to the NEW COSMOS SERIES, offering artists and potters a unique and captivating finish. This fluid, dark matte glaze features iridescent crystals that resemble the shimmering shell of a beetle, adding a touch of sophistication and depth to your ceramic pieces. Designed for cone 04 bisqueware, the Dark Star glaze is perfect for creating stunning works that break translucent, providing a striking contrast with its rich, dark base.- Unique Appearance: Iridescent crystals that catch the light, mimicking the natural beauty of a beetle's shell.
- Translucency: Breaks translucent to add depth and intrigue to your designs.
Product Specifications
To achieve the best results, apply four coats of the Dark Star glaze to your bisqueware. While it performs optimally at cone 6, it can also be fired to cone 5, giving you flexibility in your firing schedule. For an even more captivating finish, leave the inside or back of your form unglazed. The Dark Star glaze can be fired in a normal medium-speed firing with no special cooling schedule required. For increased crystal growth, consider using a controlled cooling schedule.- Application: Apply up to four coats for maximum effect.
- Firing Range: Cone 04 bisqueware; fired to cone 5 or 6.
Practical Use and Safety
This food-safe glaze, while durable, is not recommended for use on food surfaces due to its texture. For those looking to protect their kiln shelves, we recommend stopping your glaze about half an inch above the foot, and using a drip tray or soft bricks to minimize any potential running. Tableware producers are advised to test all finished ware to establish dinnerware status due to possible variations in firing temperature and contamination.- Food-Safe: Yes, but not recommended for food surfaces.
- Safety: Test all finished ware for dinnerware status; use drip trays or soft bricks for shelf protection.
