Worldwide Shipping Pike O'blisco From Stickle Tarn - Original Painting By William Heaton Cooper R.i. (1903 - 1995) Upgraded Model [YRvDX8SM]
Turned into a reservoir in 1838 for gunpowder works at Elterwater (now the Langdale Estate), Stickle Tarn’s south-eastern shore is depicted here reflecting a calm blue afternoon sky, with the rocky summit of Pike o’Blisco cloud-shadowed in the distance. ‘The mountain pool beneath the peak’ gets its name from the Old English sticel (steep place) and the Old Norse tjǫrn (tarn). Many fellwalkers know it as a spot to rest en route to Pavey Ark, Harrison Stickle and Pike o’Stickle – The Langdale Pikes.
