For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Restored Circa 1934 Oversized Sheaffer Vacuum-Fil Fountain Pen in the Marine Green celluloid with a transparent barrel. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, put back together, and now is in wonderful writing condition.
I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand polished the Gold Filled Clip, Cap Banding, and 14K Vacuum-Fil NIB. I also cleaned, buffed, and polished the barrel, cap, and blind cap to bring back the vibrancy and to protect the celluloid of the fountain pen.
This fountain pen cap and barrel are in very good condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. The cap has the Gold Filled "VACUUM-FIL" Clip that displays some minor wear toward the upper area of the clip (see image). This Cap has a single band gold-filled cap band that displays some minor wear. All of the gold-filled trim has been polished to shine brightly again. The barrel is clearly stamped with, "VACUUM-FIL FT. MADISON, IA, U.S.A. U.S. PAT. 1,926,405 OTHER PAT. PEND.". There are no monograms or personalizations on the cap or barrel. This Oversized Sheaffer Vacuum-Fil Fountain Pen measures 5 1/8" in length capped and 6 1/8" posted.
The plunger-fill system has been completely restored with the barrel holding an enormous amount of ink! Replaced the old packing unit with new and added a new plunger gasket. I have tested the plunger filling mechanism with water and fills as it should. Collector Alert: The transparency of the barrel is Water Clear - one can easily see through the barrel and these are extremely hard to find in this condition.
This Sheaffer Vacuum-Fil has a 14K NIB. The actual writing portion, the iridium, of the 14K Sheaffer NIB has a Fine point measuring roughly .47mm when measured with digital calipers. When creating a writing sample, the NIB writes with an extra-fine/fine to medium/broad stroke/line measuring between .42mm to .90mm when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Montblanc Blue Ink.
Collector Note: Vacuum-Fil was a new sub-brand for Sheaffer, introduced in 1934 and featuring a new single stroke plunger filling system before it was applied to Sheaffer branded pens
This is a very scarce Oversize Sheaffer Vacuum-Fil Fountain Pen in the Marine Green Celluloid with great transparency that I would grade in Very Fine Condition. The barrel transparency is in such immaculate condition and will be a prize for the new owner. Certainly, this fountain pen is collector grade and this fine writing instrument is ready to write with or just add to your writing arsenal collection.
