All-in-one 1920s 18ct Solid Gold Waterman 42 Safety Fountain Pen F-bbb Flex Nib Restored Holiday Cheer Edition [UhrESeOn]

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Gorgeous Circa 1920s Waterman 42 Safety Fountain Pen in Black Hard Rubber with 18Ct Solid Gold Overlay in the Sheraton Pattern. This fountain pen has been cleaned, put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

I have hand cleaned the NIB and feed. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel, cap, spiral, rod connector, turning knob, and end unit with mineral oil. Hand polished the Cap and Barrel along with the Ideal 14K #2 Flexible NIB.

This fountain pen is made from black rubber with a stamped 18 CTS Overlay. The pattern is known as Sheraton pattern which was typical seen on pens in the French market. The hard rubber portion of the pen displays a deep black color with no oxidation! The butt end of barrel end has the imprint that reads, "42" and the end of the barrel reads, "WATERMAN'S REG. U.S. PAT. OFF. MADE IN USA".

The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. There are no monograms or personalizations on the barrel or cap. There are no cracks, nicks or repairs to the hard rubber. The 18 CTS Overlay has less than normal scratching to the barrel and cap. The overlay is stamped with an, "Eagle Head (18K gold French Hallmark), Made in France, WATERMAN OR 18CTS". There are no leaks from the cap or the turning knob and tested for 48 hours with ink. This Waterman 42 measures 5 1/8" in length capped and 6 3/8" posted with the nib extended.

The NIB is a 14K #2 Flexible Ideal Waterman NIB. When measuring the actual tip of the 14K Ideal NIB, it measured at a fine point of .55mm when measured with digital calipers. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a fine line measuring roughly .54mm with light pressure and flexes to a triple broad stroke of approximately 2.06mm with a medium to firm pressure. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. This nib writes so smoothly - a real pleasure to write with. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue-black Ink.

Finding Waterman Safety Fountain Pen are uncommon and when they show up with 18CTS Overlay then it is a very scarce pen to find. This 42 Safety is exceptionally clean and a real treasure for collectors. I would grade this Waterman 42 Safety Fountain Pen in Excellent condition.
